Lens/camera modifications

Most optical repairs/modifications and camera repairs/modifications are not without risk of breakage/damage because re-machining and disassembly is involved. Although we take every possible care in the handling of these elements, there is on occasion breakage/damage (and possible employee injury), and therefore the risk is ultimately the customer's.

Lens caps

It is best to have the item to which the lens cap is fitting to ensure a perfect fit. Specifying the outside diameter and depth of the lens casing is the next best option to having the lens on hand. In these scenarios, the lens cap will be guaranteed to fit the specified diameter not necessarily your lens. Please note thread diameters are not the same as the outside diameter. Lens caps are custom made items.

Custom Projects

Whenever a custom component is fabricated or alteration is performed, it is necessary to have the mating pieces on-hand in order to guarantee that the components operate as requested.

Threaded rings

It is necessary to have the items to which the mating pieces will be adapting on-hand in order to guarantee a perfect fitting thread. If the mating components are not provided, thread specifications, lens casing diameters, and obstructing items need to be provided by the customer. Our components are guaranteed to fit the specifications provided by the customer, not necessarily the mating pieces. Threaded rings are custom made items.

Dent removal

Dent repairs and modifications involves cold forming the casing with the optics in place. Consequently, this type of work involves some risk of breakage/damage. Although we take every possible care in the handling of these elements/casings, there is on occasion breakage/damage and possible employee injury, and therefore the ultimate risk is the customer's.

Lens cleanings

In most cases, a lens cleaning will produce the desired result. However, on occasion, moisture and fungus can permanently etch the glass. Unfortunately, there is no way to be certain if permanent damage has occurred until a cleaning has been performed. Therefore, cost of the cleaning is due regardless the outcome.

CLA / Shutter Repairs

CLA’s, clean lubricate and adjust, are guaranteed for 90 days from the date of return shipping. If the shutter fails within 90 days, it may be returned for additional repairs. Please contact us prior to shipping and include a copy of the original job invoice with the shutter. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility.

If the shutter is returned and it is determined that negligence or abusive behavior is responsible for the equipments failure, this guarantee is null and void.

Please keep in mind shutters need to be exercised. Leaving a shutter unused for months or years on end allows for dust to settle, lubricants to gum up and moisture to collect. Our guarantee is for 90 days and we will not extend free or discounted cla's for shutters that have been overhauled, sat for an extended period of time and are no longer operating correctly.

All new shutter cla/repiar projects are subject to a $40.00 bench fee. This fee is waived if a CLA/Repair is performed or if the optics are remounted into a new shutter. If the shutter is determined to be beyond economical repair, BER, and no additional work is requested, the bench fee is still due.

Estimates/Quotes

Online and phone estimates and quotes are subject to review and may increase/decrease after inspection.

Quotes presented via an official S.K. Grimes quote form are valid for 30 days.

Lead time

We strive to complete your projects in the estimated lead-time. As the majority of our work is custom components, variations in the production time are present. We base our time estimates on past experiences. In order to ensure the continued high quality and standards of our work, we may require additional time.

Returns/Exchanges

If a product is determined faulty due to negligence of SKG, then it may be returned for shop credit or replacement. Modifications done after the point of sale void this option. If the design and specifications were detailed/outlined by the customer at the beginning of the project and the components meets all the criteria, a refund is void.

Custom components cannot be returned for cash.

Stock items can be returned and credited, minus shipping and a 10% restocking fee.

Finishes

As the anodizing process is not an exact science, blemishes do occur from time to time. When they occur, we evaluate what effect this has on the functionality and cosmetics of the piece. If the blemish adversely effects the operation of a component, then steps are taken to repair or refinish the piece.

If the blemishes are purely cosmetic, repairing or refinishing the piece is at the discretion of the company.

Shipping

Standard shipping service is UPS Ground with standard $100 insurance. Please see our shipping tips for more information. Shipping costs are always the customer’s responsibility. Unless return shipping instructions (including carrier, insurance, and speed) are clearly indicated by the client prior to project completion, projects will not be shipped until correspondence detailing this information has been provided.

All freight, duty taxes, and additional fees are also the customers responsibility.

Project Modifications

Alterations, additions, deletions to projects after authorization to proceed are subject to additional fees. By sending in a project to have work done on it, you are authorizing us to proceed with the work detailed in your cover letter. You may delay authorization by clearly requesting a quote prior to any work being done.

Please note, unless directly specified in writing, all mating pieces for an adapter are required for a guaranteed fit.

Ebay and Lens Evaluations

We do accept direct shipments from Ebay sellers for buyers c/o SK Grimes. It is understood that the buyer has a complete understanding of the items' condition. Items shipped to S.K. Grimes should include the name and contact information of the buyer.

An optical evaluation of the lens can be performed if requested by the customer. The charge for this work is $20.00. This fee is waived if additional work (aka, lens mounting or adapters) is requested. Evaluations detail the physical characteristics of the optics, not the subjective quality of the image.

If you have any questions or exceptions/problems with any of this please call to discuss special cases any time during regular business hours.
